The Slumbering Brute

Stories of a huge beast waging a path of destruction through the ruined city has caused a panic in those who make their lives among the ruined city. Arch Duke Rentus has declared a reward will be given to anyone who can end this monsters rampage and bring his head as evidence of the deed.

Giants are powerful creatures given to rage easily and often rampage throughout the land to deter would be adventurers. Most of the larger Giants slumber in caves and are seldom ever seen by the eyes of man. Some of the younger, more naive beasts are given to sleeping in the open and exploring however.

Terrain

Each player takes it in turn to place a piece of terrain, either a ruined building, tower, or other similar item. We suggest that the terrain is set up within an area roughly 4’X4’.

Warbands

Players use the normal warband set-up rules.

Special Rules

The warbands know the monster was last reported in this area, he must be in one of the buildings! The buildings in the deployment zone have already been searched. When a party member enters a building he rolls a D6 in the combat phase. On a 2-6 mark that building as searched. On a 1 he has stumbled upon the giant. The Giant will awaken (light sleeper) and immediately let out a massive "Shout and Bawl" and knocks back the member D6". The Giant will charge out before the first players turn.

Young Giant

SPECIAL RULES

  • Fear: Huge and obese the Young Giant causes Fear.
Enraged: Waking from its slumber the Young Giant is very mad and will therefore not Rout for any reason.
  • Thickheaded: The Young Giant’s skull is as thick as a rock and as such it can never be stunned, treat any stunned results as knocked down instead.
  • Ungainly: If a Young Giant is knocked down roll a scatter dice to determine the direction it falls in, then place the model on its back. Any model underneath the Giant must pass an immediate initiative test or suffer a strength 5 hit as the brute crushes them. The Young Giant automatically picks itself up next turn.
  • Rampage: When the Young Giant attacks it is a rampage of varied assaults. Roll a D6 to determine what it does.
    • 1-2 Swipe: Attacks as normal.
    • 3-4 Stomp: Makes a single attack at Strength 7 inflicting double wounds.
    • 5-6 Shout and Bawl: All models within 4" of the brute must pass an immediate Strength test or be knocked down.
  • No Hiding from me! The Giant is massively tall and can easily reach into the 2nd floor of a building to pull out a person. He can reach into the 3rd floor by making a strength check. The Giant will toss the warband member D6" away in a random direction and they will suffer one strength hit from whatever height they were grabbed from.
  • Jenga! If a warband tries to go to ground higher than the Giant can reach, he will just try to bring the building down. Due to his immense size a Giant can bring down a building in one combat round per wall the building has, assuming it doesn't collapse on itself before the last wall is attacked. Due to the deteriorated stated of Mordheim after each round the Giant attacks a building it will collapse on a D6 roll of 5 or 6. Each round the Giant will tear down a support wall off a building. Anyone inside the building has to make an Initiative check or plummet (in which case the Giant will stop attacking the building and fight the person who falls, should he live).

Starting the Game

Each player rolls a D6. The player rolling highest has the first turn, and order of play proceeds clockwise around the table.

Ending the Game

The game ends when a warband gets the Giants head off the board through their deployment area. It takes one complete round to cut off the Giants head. Due to the size of the head the person carrying it cannot engage in combat, shoot, or cast spells. If the model carrying the head is slain, the head is dropped there until another model spends a close combat action picking it up. The model may not give the head to another model. If only one warband is left (or alliance) and the Giant has not been found, the scenario is failed and the Giant has wandered off to wreak havoc elsewhere in the city.

Experience

  • +1 Survives. If a Hero or a Henchman group survives the battle they gain +1 Experience.
  • +1 Winning Leader. The leader of the winning warband gains +1 Experience.
  • +1 Per Enemy Out Of Action. Any Hero earns +1 Experience for each enemy model he puts Out Of Action.
  • +1 For putting a Giant out of action. Any Hero that puts the Giant out of action gets a bonus +1 Experience.
  • +1 Delivery of the head. Any Hero that carries the head off the board gets +1 Experience.

Reward

The grateful authorities award a warband 50gc gc for the Giants head.
